A native of Los Angeles, Sammy Miller has become known for his unique maturity and relentless focus on making music that “feels good” as a drummer, singer and bandleader. At the ripe old age of 20, Sammy has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Bobby Watson, David Benoit, Christian Scott, and Ozomatli —at venues across the country, including the White House, the Kennedy Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival, and the Hollywood Bowl. In the Jazz World, Sam has been recognized with a number of honors, including the Los Angeles Jazz Society’s Shelly Manne Award, the Dolo Coker Scholarship and the 2009 Los Angeles Music Center’s Spotlight Award. A graduate of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, Sammy now resides in New York, where he attends the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music on scholarship.
Sammy leads the Congregation Band — a collaboration with some of the most sought-after young musicians on both coasts—which draws on the traditions of Soul, R&B, Jazz and Rock & Roll to create a fresh but timeless sound that keeps audiences entertained and dancing, whether at festivals or on street corners.
